Community Sport and Health Officer Apprenticeship​

The Level 3 Community Sport and Health Officer Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who want to make a positive difference in their communities through sport, physical activity and health initiatives. This apprenticeship develops the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to plan, deliver and evaluate inclusive sport and health programmes that improve wellbeing and participation.

Delivered by Bright Direction Training, the programme combines practical workplace experience with high-quality off-the-job training, supporting both apprentices and employers to achieve meaningful, long-term impact.

What Does a Community Sport and Health Officer Do?

Community Sport and Health Officers work with a wide range of people to encourage participation in physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

 

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering community sport and physical activity sessions

  • Supporting health and wellbeing initiatives

  • Engaging underrepresented or inactive groups

  • Working in partnership with local organisations and stakeholders

  • Promoting inclusion, equality and safeguarding

  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of programmes

Roles may be based within local authorities, schools, charities, sports clubs, leisure providers or community organisations.

Who is it for?

This apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sport, physical activity and community health, and who want to develop the skills to support people from all backgrounds to be more active and improve their wellbeing.

Apprentices do not need prior qualifications in sport or health, but they should be motivated, organised and committed to supporting diverse communities.

​Programme Structure

  • Duration: 16 months (including a 2 month end-point assessment)

  • Delivery: Blended learning (workplace learning, workshops, online sessions and 1:1 support)

  • Assessment: Ongoing assessment plus a final End-Point Assessment (EPA)

​

Apprentices will receive regular support from their tutor throughout the programme.

Entry Requirements

To start this apprenticeship, learners must:

  • Be aged 16 or over

  • Be employed in a relevant role (or have an employer willing to support the apprenticeship)

  • Have the right to work in the UK

  • Meet minimum English and maths requirements (or be willing to work towards them)

Employers must be able to provide appropriate on-the-job experience and support.

The qualification is comprised of 8 modules, each lasting 1-2 months.

Learning is applied directly to the apprentice’s job role, ensuring real-world relevance and impact.
